Colin Trevorrow Reveals when 'Jurassic World' Takes Place

Only having directed one feature film, the hit indie Safety Not Guaranteed, Colin Trevorrow probably isn't used to having press hound him for story details. So it's to his credit that he's remained so tight-lipped about Jurassic World. In fact, he was secretive about the film for so long that the Internet was fooled into thinking he was actually directing Star Wars: Episode VII. But nope, he's at the helm of the fourth Jurassic Park movie, and details on it have been few. Fortunately, he's taken to Twitter and cleared up one of the prevailing theories.

For months rumors have been spreading that the film would be a total reboot, although this would seem to contradict other stories that say it would take us back to Isla Nublar, which has become a full working theme park. In response to a fan's question on the subject, Trevorrow doesn't seem to think "reboot" is the most accurate description...

We can safely assume there will be some link to the earlier films if what Trevorrow says is true, otherwise it would have made more sense to do a traditional reboot of the franchise. Right now we know that Nick Robinson, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, and Chris Pratt will play a new cast of characters attempting to avoid being eaten by the rampaging dinos. This is probably the smart move, not only because the most recent film is hardly anybody's favorite, but also to be able to take the franchise in new directions while building on the substantial creative framework already established.

Jurassic World opens in 3D on June 12th 2015.
