'Space Jam 2' with LeBron James May or May Not be a Real Thing

For some reason, people actually gave a care when LeBron James tweeted last year about wanting to star in a Space Jam 2.  The original 1996 film starred Michael Jordan as he shot hoops and slam dunked alongside Bugs Bunny and other Looney Tunes characters. Despite critics hating it, the film was a smash, scoring more than $230M. And now there's word coming from Deadline that James is about to get his wish for a sequel, although there's some doubt over the veracity of their report.

Deadline says that Warner Bros. is developing Space Jam 2, with broadcasting legend Dick Ebersol's sons as producers. The CG/Live-Action hybrid would feature Bugs, Daffy, Tasmanian Devil and other Looney Tunes characters with James bringing along other big time NBA superstars. Although I doubt they'll hold a candle to the Hall of Fame talent that appeared in the first film, such as Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, and "Muggsy" Bogues. Don't sleep on Muggsy Bogues just because he was knee-high to a knee.

However, there's a wrinkle, because ESPN is reporting a source within LeBron James' camp that says the story isn't at all true. So who's zoomin' who here?
Is the NBA popular enough right now for a movie like this? Is LeBron James loved in the same way Michael Jordan was back then? I don't think so, but the NBA hasn't really appealed to me in a lot of years, and James hasn't done much to regain my interest. Even if this film doesn't work out, he's still got the b-ball comedy, Ballers, starring Kevin Hart.
