Baz Luhrmann in Talks to Bring TV's 'Kung Fu' to the Big Screen
And for the oddest story of the day.....
You may recall that a few years ago, Bill Paxton was looking at the possibility of bringing David Carradine's 1970s martial arts/western TV series, Kung Fu, to the big screen. It seemed like a weird combination, and the project was basically never heard from again. Certainly no movement was made on it. And now all of the sudden Universal is keen on jumpstarting it again, only now it's with Baz Luhrmann in talks to direct.
Luhrmann is know for his big, swooping musical spectacles, such as last year's The Great Gatsby, so this makes for an unexpected choice. Granted, his knack for elaborate choreography could come in handy if plans are to really dig in on the fighting action, and chances are that's exactly what Luhrmann would do. Rich Wilkes (both xXx flicks) wrote the script's initial draft, but if he signs on Luhrmann would take a shot at it. One can only wonder if he'll add a dash of Jay-Z to the story of Caine, whose journey will be transplanted from the American West to China. Rather than searching for his lost half-brother, Caine will nstead be on a quest to find his father.[THR]
