In what will come as a shock to absolutely nobody, studios really like to make money. And what many of them have learned is that these YA adaptations are like a license to print money, or at least the big ones are. And a good way to cash in a little bit more is to dig into audience pockets twice for the finale. So we got the Twilight finale split into two chapters, and the same will happen for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. So it only makes sense for Divergent to get the same treatment.
According to Deadline, the final book in the series, Allegiant, will be adapted into two separate movies. The first film will keep its March 18th 2016 date that Lionsgate had already set for it, while part 2 will arrive on March 24th 2017.
Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and much of the cast are expected to return. The next film, Insurgent, opens March 20th 2015.
