A few years ago Ryan Reynolds had everything at his fingertips. Hot new DC Comics movie franchise, blockbuster films all lined up, and even a couple of buzzworthy indies. And then it all disappeared and Reynolds has kind of slipped into the background. But he may be on the way back, with a notable change-of-pace role in Marjane Satrapi's The Voices debuting at Sundance, and next he'll hit Cannes for Atom Egoyan's The Captive.
As Cannes continues to reveal footage from their full slate of films, the first trailer for The Captive is among them. The dark and foreboding film, reminiscent of last year's Prisoners, centers on a man dealing with the kidnapping of his young daughter, and how her disappearance leads to the destruction of everything around him. This is pretty tough material, and judging by this Reynolds could be up to the task of handling it. He's surrounded y a talented ensemble of Mireille Enos, Rosario Dawson, Scott Speedman, Alexia Fast, and Bruce Greenwood.
