Trailer for Ken Loach's Final Film, 'Jimmy's Hall'

It was a sad day when Ken Loach announced last year that his next film, Jimmy's Hall, would be his last. For more than forty years he's been one of the world's most accomplished directors, winning a Palm d'Or in 2006 for Irish drama The Wind that Shakes the Barley, just one of many accolades he would earn during his career. With Cannes right around the corner, a trailer for Loach's swansong has been released, and it's definitely right in his wheelhouse.

Starring Barry Ward, the 1930s-set film centers on Irish political activist Jimmy Gralton, who returned home from America to start a new life. Opening a dance hall where people could go to be free and express their hopes and dreams without fear, Jimmy encounters problems when the Catholic church catches wind of it and tries to shut it down. Loach has always had a steady hand when tackling issues of politics and religion, and this looks to be no different.

Jimmy's Hall opens on May 30th.
