Angelina Jolie Crashes the Party in First 'Maleficent' Clip

In both the Brothers Grimm fairy tale and Disney's animated Sleeping Beauty, what drove Maleficent to evil was her being uninvited to a ceremony thrown by the king and queen. It's then that she casts a fatal curse that is weakened to merely a sleeping spell by one of the good fairies in attendance. Disney's live-action film Maleficent seems to be going to great lengths to make her sympathetic, but that will be tough to do based on this first clip.

Playing out almost exactly like the animated film, this clip shows Maleficent crashing the party after she was left off the guest list, causing an "awkward situation". If the rest of the story plays out in the way we're familiar then she's still going to come off like Disney's ultimate heel.

Maleficent opens May 30th and co-stars Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, Lesley Manville, Sharlto Copley.
