Moving Trailer for Roger Ebert Documentary 'Life Itself'

Whether you're like those of us who exist in the world of film criticism, or if you were just someone who appreciated smart and witty movie reviews, the loss of Roger Ebert left a void that has yet to be replaced. No, really, it hasn't even come close to being filled, and a big part of the reason is that Ebert was able to communicate in a way that touched people from every walk of life.  Chances are we'll never see his like again, but we can celebrate the man he was in Steve James' moving documentary, Life Itself.

The first trailer for the film has been released, offering a look at the inside access James (Hoop Dreams) had to Ebert during the time of his failing health. But the film isn't about how Ebert died, it's about the life he led and how he affected so many people along the way. It begins with his early career as a political reporter to his rivalry with eventual colleague and loving friend, Gene Siskel; and finally how he found love with Chaz Ebert. Only one film drove me to tears at Sundance and this was it, and I'm guessing others will have the same reaction.

Life Itself opens on July 4th. Be sure to check it out.
