Yabbadabbadoo? Will Ferrell and Adam McKay Producing 'The Flinstones' Animated Film

And the Hollywood nostalgia train continues. Jem and the Holograms. Popeye. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Barbie. Green Acres. And now The Flintstones are headed back to the big screen for the first time since 2000's live-action The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, only this time it will be animated and come courtesy of Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

Ferrell and McKay will exec-produce the animated film for Warner Bros. through their Gary Sanchez production label, which probably means Ferrell will voice one of the characters. Chris Henchy (The Campaign) will write the script following the prehistoric Flintstone clan and their neighbors, The Rubbles.

No word on a director at this stage but given this is a Warner Bros. project one has to figure they will ask The Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. Speaking of which, is it possible this is one of the animated movies the studio recently slotted for 2017 and 2018 release dates?  [THR]
