New 'Guardians of the Galaxy' Trailer Strikes a Serious Note; Plus New Image
The trailers we've seen for Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy have largely played down any threat the quirky band of heroes are facing. Considering this is more likely to be a comedy than any other film from Marvel thus far, it makes a certain degree of sense to make light of the combustible team dynamics, and taking that approach certainly didn't hurt The Avengers' bottom line.
But the latest trailer, cut for U.K. audiences, strikes a slightly serious tone as we see glimpses of Star-Lord's (Chris Pratt) origin, followed by a desperate plea for help in saving the universe. So we are thankfully spared the overused "Who?" sequence that has been the centerpiece of the marketing up to this point, in favor of a trailer that highlights the space opera aspects and big Star Wars-style action. It's probably a wise move to show there's more to this film than meets the eye. And speaking of that comedy scene, Marvel has released a new image from it featuring Djimon Hounsou as Korvath.
Directed by James Gunn with Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, and Bradley Cooper co-starring, Guardians of the Galaxy opens August 1st.
