Tom Hiddleston has shown his versatility in a number of different roles, playing the Asgardian villain Loki in the Thor and Avengers films, and a vampire rock star in Only Lovers Left Alive most recently. So how about casting the Brit actor as country music icon Hank Williams? While it may not seem like the most natural fit that's exactly what is going to happen.
Hiddleston has agreed to play Williams in biopic I Saw the Light, from little-known director Mark Abraham. Abraham last directed Greg Kinnear in the auto-industry drama Flash of Genius which nobody saw. His prospects this time are much greater as Williams is a legend in the country music business who scored hits with the ballad "Your Cheatin' Heart", "Hey Good Lookin'", and many more. But he also lived a hard and fast personal life, became an alcoholic and began taking prescription pills, ultimately dying of heart failure at the age of 29.
This will only be the rare occurrence of Hiddleston playing an American. He also appeared as F. Scott Fitzgerald in Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris a few years ago.
