Marvel is currently in the midst of a very shaky time in their expanding cinematic universe. Guardians of the Galaxy will remain a question mark until audiences prove it a success or failed experiment next month. And then there's Ant-Man, which lost writer/director Edgar Wright after eight years of development, replacing him with Peyton Reed, a very different sort of filmmaker. With only about a year until the film opens and with fans dubious of his abilities, he'll probably want to make a big splash this weekend at Comic-Con. He's getting a little help from Marvel's marketing brass with the release [via EW] of a SDCC exclusive poster, illustrated by Andy Park.
The image shows the Ant-Man suit, which doesn't appear to have changed with the director switch. Paul Rudd is also seen as Scott Lang, with Michael Douglas as the original Ant-Man, Hank Pym. The film co-stars Michael Pena, Corey Stoll, Patrick Wilson, and Evangeline Lily, opening July 17th 2015. Here's the official synopsis:
When Marvel’s “Ant-Man” hits theaters July 17, 2015, director Peyton Reed will help shepherd the hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a cast led by Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas, with writer Adam McKay contributing to the film’s script.
Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
