'The Ring 3' Has Found a Director in F. Javier Gutierrez

It's like 2002 all over again. That was when Hollywood was in the midst of a J-horror remake craze with highly-successful movies like The Ring and The Grudge, both scaring up profitable sequels, as well. A few weeks ago we learned Takashi Miike's Audition was getting a redo, and Sam Raimi is developing a reboot of The Grudge. But Paramount has had the most success with The Ring, and although it has been nearly a decade since the last film, they have found a director to head up a third.

F. Javier Gutierrez, who is attached to direct a reboot of The Crow, is now set to helm The Ring 3. It's expected to be in 3D and will likely center on people who are killed after watching a cursed video tape. Can they at least upgrade it to a cursed Blu-Ray? Gotta keep up with the times.  The first film earned $249M with Gore Verbinski directing, followed by Hideo Nakata's $160M-grossing sequel. Both movies starred Naomi Watts and there's no word if she's been approached for the next one.

That's all we know and really, do we need to know anything else? Color me less than excited about a return to a fad I hoped Hollywood was done with. [THR]
