Been watching much FX lately? The network that absolutely adores reruns of Bad Boys 2 has been showing commercials for a new sitcom, Partners, that stars Martin Lawrence and Kelsey Grammer. In short; it looks dreadful and has the whiff of "early cancellation" all over it. And when things aren't looking so hot for Lawrence you can usually count on him talking up Bad Boys 3 again, which he did on Conan just last night.
Like he's been doing for years, Lawrence was more confident than anybody else about the film happening, saying...
Lawrence: "I believe so. Yes. I just talked to Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday and he said it's real, they’re working on the script, they’re getting close and it all looks good."
How convenient that he talked to Bruckheimer right before he was going to be asked about it. But all of this is nothing new for Lawrence who keeps dangling this particular carrot. Here he was back in 2010...
"Any time you can get Big Willie to come out and talk about doing a third installment of a hot movie like ‘Bad Boys,’ you have to take notice. I met with Michael Bay, and he said he’s onboard too — so it’s real…We’re just waiting on Jerry Bruckheimer to let us know when it’s really real."
So I guess it's "really real" now? Why? Michael Bay has moved on from Transformers and is eying other projects like his elephant poaching movie and possibly an adaptation of Cosmic Motors. And what incentive is there for Will Smith? This is the same guy who turned down an Indepdence Day sequel but came back for Men in Black 3. Predicting where he'd land on something like this tough.
Whatever the case, don't believe anything just yet, but if it does happen it will be David Guggenheim (Safe House)writing the screenplay since he was hired for it last year. And if you're planning on watching Partners better do it early.
