Michael Bay Could get Behind the Wheel for 'Cosmic Motors'
Michael Bay has been trying to get out of the Transformers franchise for a little while now, but was lured in one more time with the $1B-grossing Transformers: Age of Extinction. While Paramount has already dated a fifth movie for 2016, Bay has continued to assert he's moving on, with USA Today recently stating he will "pass the baton for future Transformer movies" to a different director so he can focus on passion projects like a film on elephant poaching. But where would Bay be without a chance to indulge in his love of ridiculously hot cars and even hotter babes? Turns out he may not be getting so far away from it, after all, it just won't involve Optimus Prime saving the world.
A story at The Tracking Board says Bay will direct Cosmic Motors, based on the fictional catalog by Daniel Simon. The book is basically a collection of nine futuristic vehicles: spaceships, pod racers, warships, and more designed by Cosmic Motors of the Galaxion star system. It's a pretty cool book full of complex sketches and 3D renderings, kind of like receiving an issue of Motor Trend if it was sent to you from the future. Since it is just a bunch of geeky car specs a proper narrative is being established that could be in the space Western genre for some odd reason. But let's be honest this will probably just be one long car commercial. So basically it won't be that much different from Transformers....or Pain & Gain...or The Island...or....shall I continue?
Anyway, we'll see if any of this turns out to be true. It's certainly right in Bay's wheelhouse but after expressing a desire to do something different would he be willing to push all of that aside?
