Nicole Holofcener to Direct 'The Land of Steady Habits'

When Enough Said opened last year it wasn't just the perfect coda to the late James Gandolfini's career, it was also Nicole Holofcener's most enjoyable film yet. After directing four other features, always starring her friend Catherine Keener, Holofcener is finally getting the attention she's deserved, and now for her next feature she'll be taking on an adaptation of Ted Thompson's debut novel, The Land of Steady Habits.

Thompson revealed the news of Fox Searchlight's acquisition of the book's rights with plans for Holofcener to write and direct. The novel was published earlier this year and was honored as a selection for the Flaherty-Dunnan First Novel Prize, so it's got some buzz behind it. No word on when filming could begin but that should change when an official announcement drops. Presumably Here's the synopsis:

Anders Hill, entering his early sixties and seemingly ensconced in the "land of steady habits"--a nickname for the affluent, morally strict hamlets of Connecticut that dot his commuter rail line--abandons his career and family for a new condo and a new life. Stripped of the comforts of his previous identity, Anders turns up at a holiday party full of his ex-wife's friends and is suprised to find that the very world he rejected may be one he needs. Thus Anders embarks on a clumsy, hilarious, and heartbreaking journey to reconcile his past with his present.

How much you want to bet Keener plays the ex-wife?
