Steve Carell wants to Win Gold in Creepy New Trailer for 'Foxcatcher'
Coming up in October we'll have a chance to see Steve Carell in the family comedy Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, a film that's right in the sweet spot where audiences really like him. But Carell hasn't been satisfied merely doing what audiences expect, and lately he's been taking on darker roles. The darkest of them all is Bennett Miller's Foxcatcher, and after it was supposed to be an Oscar favorite last year before a delay, it's firmly a part of the race now.
Sporting a prosthetic nose (remember what that did for Nicole Kidman in The Hours?), Carell takes on the role of millionaire John du Pont, an Olympic wrestling enthusiast with his own training facility where he hopes to train the next gold medal winner. But due to du Pont's immense paranoia the entire enterprise meets a violent end, with the Olympic wrestling brothers Mark and Dave Schultz (Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo) caught in the middle.
The film earned Miller the Best Director award out of Cannes and that just may be the start of the accolades heaped upon Foxcatcher when it opens on November 14th.
