Steve Martin Joins Disney's 'Magic Camp'
It's been a long time since we saw Steve Martin on screen, perhaps in hopes we'd forget about the last time we saw him. That would be in 2011's bird watching "comedy" The Big Year, which I'm guessing you did in fact forget about. Anyway, Martin is going to back to his roots now by rejoining Disney for a family comedy titled Magic Camp.
THR reports Martin is close to inking a deal to star in Magic Camp, which he recently rewrote to with Stu Zicherman, the writer/director behind the Adam Scott comedy, A.C.O.D. Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) penned the initial screenplay which follows a straight-laced banker who returns to Magic Camp where he attended as a child years before. Only now he's a camp counselor with plans of improving the lives of the campers while also winning the Golden Wand competition.
This would be Martin's first film with Disney since 2005's Shopgirl, which he wrote. But before that he had a run of hits at the studio, including the Father of the Bride movies. No word on who will be directing Magic Camp and I'm surprised Martin hasn't been approached to do it himself.
