Trailer for 'Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas' is a Holiday Disaster
Are you one of those people who secretly burns with the heat of a thousand suns whenever someone says "Happy Holidays" rather than "Merry Christmas?" Well so does Kirk Cameron, and his movie Saving Christmas is apparently made just for you and whoever else believes in the fictional "war on Christmas."
The trailer for Saving Christmas is...to put it bluntly, fucking pathetic. Pathetic not only in message, because it supposes something that doesn't remotely exist, but also in content. It's apparently a holiday comedy or something but damned if there's a laugh in it anywhere. And what's with the Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas title, anyway? Does he fancy himself the whackjob version of Tyler Perry or Lee Daniels? Granted, his name has become synonymous with a certain uneducated fanaticism but this is ridiculous. When he openly laments that some people want to tear down every manger scene (nobody wants that, by the way) it's like Bill O'Reilly wrote the screenplay himself.
And maybe if O'Reilly had written it this would be worth checking out but instead it's Chester Harvey and Darren Doane providing the screenplay, with the latter directing. Doane was at the helm of the Kirk Cameron documentary, Unstoppable, which I'm sure was absolutely scintillating stuff. Why didn't that win any awards? Oh...because it was only out for one night as a stream exclusive to Liberty University. Who needs a frat party when you can watch a documentary on the guy from Growing Pains? I've probably spent too much time on this movie I'll hopefully never have to see but it struck me how the film is trying to make some of the same points about consumerism as A Charlie Brown Christmas, only in a way that's both insulting and defeating of its own purpose. Ugh, whatever. Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas opens November 14th, probably closes the same day, and when it does they can just blame the Hollywood atheists. Here's the trailer and synopsis:
This Christmas, have your family join with Kirk Cameron’s family and dive headfirst into all the dancing, celebration, feasting, imagination, and traditions that glorify the true “reason for the season.” KIRK CAMERON’S SAVING CHRISTMAS is an engaging story that will leave the audience with an understanding of a biblical basis for our celebrations, and the inspiration to stand strongly against a culture that wants to trivialize and eliminate the faith elements of this holy season. So take in the splendor; take in the majesty; take in the story. Take it all in … and let’s put Christ back in Christmas! KIRK CAMERON’S SAVING CHRISTMAS is in theaters for a limited engagement beginning November 14.
