James Franco Adapting Chuck Palahniuk's 'Rant' for the Big Screen

The most recent of Chuck Palahniuk's books to be turned into a movie was 2006's Choke, brought to the screen by Clark Gregg (yep, Agent Coulson) and it wasn't very good. Far from the other Palahniuk adaptation, Fight Club, which is considered a modern day classic. Now James Franco has his sights on bringing another of the author's works to the screen, and hopefully this turns out better than his adaptations of William Faulkner (As I Lay Dying) and Cormac McCarthy (Child of God).

According to LitReactor, Franco has picked up the rights to Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey, Palahniuk's 2007 book. It's unclear if Franco plans to direct, star, or both, but whatever he chooses he's got some wild material to wrap his brain around. Here's the synopsis:

Buster “Rant” Casey just may be the most efficient serial killer of our time. A high school rebel, Rant Casey escapes from his small town home for the big city where he becomes the leader of an urban demolition derby called Party Crashing. Rant Casey will die a spectacular highway death, after which his friends gather the testimony needed to build an oral history of his short, violent life.

And like his previous Faulkner and McCarthy efforts, Franco would have to deal with another unconventional narrative as the story is told by Rant's friends in the form of an oral biography. Considering the trouble Franco has had it might be a good idea to hand the directing reins to somebody else.
