Orlando Bloom has had more than his share of franchise work, but his efforts outside of that have been less than successful. He had practically dropped off the face of the Earth until Peter Jackson came calling once again for The Hobbit, allowing him a chance to return as silver-haired elf Legolas. And now it looks like Bloom may be reprising another role, that of Will Turner in a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
Bloom, who left the series after Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, was speaking at Oz Comic-Con where he revealed talks have begun for him to return for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales....
Bloom: “There have certainly been some discussions about it and I’m open to it. That whole experience working with Johnny and (director) Gore (Verbinski) was really amazing for me. I had a great time working with Johnny, one of the reasons I jumped at the opportunity was because Johnny was involved. I was such a massive fan of Johnny Depp growing up so to get up close and personal to Johnny and see how he worked as an actor was just a massive gift.”
Of course, he won't actually be working with Verbinski if he does come back as Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg (Kon-Tiki) are co-directing from a Jeff Nathanson script. Depp will obviously be back as Captain Jack Sparrow, and Geoffrey Rush may return as Barbosa. But where would Bloom fit in, exactly? When last we saw Will Turner he had taken over command of the Flying Dutchman ship and was allowed only one day on land to spend with his love, Elizabeth (Keira Knightley). It would be odd to bring him back without Elizabeth, but it could easily be done. Would it be worth it, though? His story seemed to wrap up pretty well and probably doesn't need to be revisited.
