It's been a pretty good Sundance for James Franco with two fairly well-received performances in True Story and I Am Michael. But that's over now and it's time to get back behind the camera and adapt another novel from a classic author.
Franco will direct and star in an adaptation of John Steinbeck's In Dubious Battle, and he's amassed a strong cast to join him. Selena Gomez, Ed Harris, Danny McBride, Bryan Cranston, Robert Duvall, and Vincent D'Onofrio will star in the film "which portrays the struggle between labor and capital in 1930s America as close to all out warfare."
Maybe this one will work out better than Franco's Cormac McCarthy and William Faulkner projects? One can hope. Filming is to begin in March.
