You'll see James Wan's name featured prominently in the new trailer for Demonic, and that's for a very good reason. Wan is a seasoned horror vet who has been behind some of the genre's best films such as Saw, The Conjuring, and Insidious. The story for Demonic may be his but he's only on board as a producer, so we can't fully blame him for how generic this scarer looks.
Starring the talented Frank Grillo, Maria Bello, Cody Horn, and Scott Mechlowicz, the film's creaky plot has a bunch of students with video cameras looking for ghosts in a haunted house. Been there done that, right? Honestly, there's little here that we haven't seen before and the only question is how big of a role Grillo and Bello actually have. They play a cop and psychologist investigating the brutal murders of the ghost-hunting youngsters, and this footage focuses mostly on those who apparently died, possibly from a case of Jump Scare disease.
Relative newcomer Will Canon directs and co-wrote the script, and while it may be easy to knock him for giving us nothing but formulaic crap, audiences still shell out big bucks for this stuff. When they'll have a chance to do that is still unclear as Weinstein and Dimension Films pulled Demonic's planned 2014 release and have yet to put it back on the schedule.
