Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt in Talks for Sci-Fi Romance, 'Passengers'

The long development history for the sci-fi romance Passengers is well documented at this point. Once a project shepherded by Keanu Reeves, he was to be joined by Reese Witherspoon or Rachel McAdams at different stages, but for various reasons nothing ever came together. With Reeves eventually departing also, the film was in limbo until it got a new lease on life with the arrival of Oscar-nominated The Imitation Game director, Morten Tyldum, and it looks like his presence is attracting two big names.

Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence are in talks to star in Passengers, which features a script by Jon Spaihts, writer of Prometheus and Doctor Strange. The futuristic tale takes place aboard a starship journeying to a brand new planet. With each passenger in a state of cryogenic sleep, one awakens 90 years too early and rather than face the prospect of dying all alone, he decides to wake up a female passenger, beginning their romance.

Both stars are extremely busy and it remains to be seen if schedules can be worked out to accommodate the film. Lawrence, in particular, has a lot to contend with as she has The Hunger Games: Mockingjay part 2, X-men: Apocalypse, and David O. Russell's Joy. [THR]
