'The Grand Budapest Hotel' Wins Big at the BAFTA Awards; 'Boyhood' Named Best Film
The slugfest between Boyhood and Birdman continues to rage on until the Academy Awards later this month, and after a series of big wins by Alejandro Gonzalez-Inarritu's film, it was Richard Linklater who decisively won out across the pond. Last night the BAFTA Awards were handed out Linklater's Boyhood came away victorious in the major categories, winning Best Film, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette. Birdman, on the other hand, only managed a single win for Best Cinematography.
The big winner of the night was actually Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel which came away with five wins, including one for Screenplay. Eddie Redmayne was named Best Actor for his performance as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, and Julianne Moore won Best Actress for Still Alice.
