What's the major knock against director Tarsem? Mainly that his films are all flash but there's little going on beneath the surface. I would argue there's considerable depth to his first two features, The Cell and The Fall, while Mirror Mirror and Immortals lived up to the criticism. That leaves the door wide open for his next film, the sci-fi thriller Selfless, which has just dropped its first trailer.
Starring Ben Kingsley, Ryan Reynolds, Matthew Goode, Marina Paola Vicente, Michelle Dockery, Derek Luke, and Natalie Martinez, the film centers on a rich man dying of cancer who has his consciousness transferred into the body of a young, healthy man. Think it goes exactly as planned? Of course not, especially when the truth about the body's origins begin to surface.
At least judging by the trailer this could be Tarsem's most conventional film from a visual standpoint, so hopefully the script holds up. Selfless hits theaters on July 31st.
