After building a substantial amount of heat on the festival circuit, Mike Flanagan's $5M horror Oculus hit theaters last year and was a massive success, grossing more than $40M. It also put Flanagan up there as one of today's new crop of genre directors to watch out for, and now it's time to take notice of his follow-up, Before I Wake, because it looks pretty creepy.
Starring Kate Bosworth, Thomas Jane's hair, Dash Mihok, Jacob Tremblay, and Annabeth Gish, the film centers on a couple who take in an orphaned 8-year-old boy. That's nice, but kids have a tendency to be a problem in horror movies and this one is no different. See, he's afraid to go to sleep (the film was once titled Somnia for a reason) because his dreams become manifested in reality. That means the nice dreams, but also the terrifying nightmares.
Before I Wake hits theaters on May 8th.
