About a year ago the national discussion had been turned towards P.O.W. Bowe Bergdahl, a somewhat eccentric U.S. soldier kidnapped and held captive by the Taliban for years until the Obama administration negotiated his release. His story made headlines around the world and, as Hollywood tends to do,
multiple films about Bergdahl were announced. The big one was to be spear-headed by Kathryn Bigelow, reuniting with her
Zero Dark Thirty and
The Hurt Locker screenwriter, Mark Boal. Nothing had been heard about it since then, but now we know it's next on her things to do list.
The untitled Bergdahl film will be her next project according to
Deadline. She'll be pushing aside
Triple Frontier, the long-developing Traffic-style drama set in "the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil". Nothing has been heard about that film in years even though some big names, including Tom Hanks, have been circling it.
But back to the Bergdahl project, it's expected to start drawing some major attention from studios soon, which is no surprise given Bigelow's Oscar-winning credentials and subject matter she's very familiar with.
