Sam Strike won't be Spider-Man but he will be 'Leatherface'

Not that it ever really seemed likely but we now we know Eastenders actor Sam Strike definitely won't be Spider-Man. He's still landed a role as another iconic masked character, though, as he's set to play Leatherface in yet another Texas Chainsaw Massacre origin story.

Details about Leatherface first dropped last year when it was revealed the story would take place in the 1970s. Strike's character is different than the Leatherface we're accustomed to, though. He's a teenager named Jackson who escapes from an institution with some friends, and somehow all of it leads to him putting on a beat up old mask as the chainsaw-wielding Leatherface. If you're confused because we JUST had Texas Chainsaw 3D (which didn't perform all that well) a couple of years ago that was some kind of sequel to the 1974 original, it's because all of these films don't share the same continuity. This one seems to be branching off to start something completely new.

Directing the film is French duo Julien Maury and Alexandre Bustillo, best known for the 2007 indie horror, Inside. [TheWrap]
