Breaking Up is Hard to Do in First Trailer for Joe Dante's 'Burying the Ex'

Look back at many of the most iconic films of the 1980s and there's a good chance Joe Dante had something to do with it. But the Gremlins director has been considerably less prolific of late with his last film 2010's kid-centric horror, The Hole. His fans remain as devoted as ever, and when a crowd-sourcing boost was needed for his latest film, Burying the Ex, they turned out to help. Unfortunately, little was heard about a release date after it premiered at the Venice Film Festival, but maybe the horror comedy's first trailer signals some news is on the way.

Starring Anton Yelchin, Ashley Green, Alexandra Daddario, and Oliver Cooper, the film follows a young man who decides to move in with his seemingly-perfect girlfriend. However she turns out to be not-so-perfect and he comes to regret the decision, deciding to break up with her. Before he can do it she's killed in a freak accident, but that's hardly the end of their relationship.

Tonally it seems to be walking the same offbeat balance as the zombie comedy Life After Beth, while making some of the same points. Expect Burying the Ex to arrive some time this year courtesy of Voltage Pictures.
