Is Common Playing a Major Aquaman Villain in 'Suicide Squad'?
There's still an outside shot that rapper/actor Common, who recently joined the cast of Suicide Squad in an unknown role, will actually be playing the John Stewart version of Green Lantern. It's possible, only because Common was meant to do it years ago for George Miller's failed Justice League film. However, a new rumor has surfaced that suggests he'll actually be a villain, and a major one for future Justice Leaguer, Aquaman.
Joblo editor-in-chief Paul Shirey tweeted a rumor that Common may sport the giant helmet of Black Manta, Aquaman's arch-nemesis. The character has been rumored to appear in the Aquaman solo film coming in 2018 with Jason Momoa as the lead. With Suicide Squad heavily connected to Batman v Superman, where Aquaman is expected to debut, it makes some sense to have his chief villain make an appearance.
This is all just speculation, though. Common has played villains before (most recently in Run All Night) but it seems like a waste to not have the Oscar-winner in a more central role in the DC Universe. Suicide Squad opens August 5th 2016.
