Next 'Transformers' Film Planned for 2017
When it comes to gigantic $1B-franchises the best place to find the latest news is in the boardroom, or more specifically the quarterly earnings calls. Hasbro held theirs today and gave an update on when we might see the follow-up to last year's Transformers: Age of Extinction, and as you might expect they aren't wasting any time.
Hasbro is targeting 2017 for Transformers 5, which is what had been heard before. Here's what Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner had to say...
“Our plan right now with the studio and filmmakers, you may have read something about some writers being hired. We have in fact brought in [Akiva Goldsman[ to lead a group of writers to really create a strategic plan around Transformers – we think there’s any number of stories to be told. It’s a brand that’s been around for 30 years with amazing cannon and mythology. We would expect the sequel to the Transformers movie to happen in 2017."
The wheels really started turning last month when Goldsman and his "writers' room" got to work on developing multi-part sequels and spinoffs designed to expand the franchise, probably in a way similar to what Marvel has done. It also appears that Michael Bay will be involved, possibly as director, once he finishes up filming on the Benghazi drama, 13 Hours. [TFW2005]
