Sony May Have a New Plan for More 'Dragon Tattoo' Sequels

Rooney Mara may not have hope for any sequels to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and most certainly David Fincher has no interest in them, but Sony clearly does. Four years have passed since the R-rated adaptation of the wildly popular book under-performed at the box office, and not a darn thing has been done on readying a follow-up. Given all the money they've already spent on the potential franchise, plus the numerous fights with Fincher, it's no wonder Sony has been slow in figuring out a way to make this viable. Well now they may have come up with a plan.

According to THR, Sony may look to combine books The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest and The Girl Who Played With Fire into a single movie. That could be followed by an adaptation of The Girl In the Spider's Web, the fourth book in the series and the first not written by author Stieg Larsson who died in 2004.

The book comes out on September 1st and was written by journalist David Lagercrantz, which has upset some fans who wanted a more experienced crime novelist. However that hasn't caused a slow down in pre-orders, and Sony sees this as an opportunity to cash in while 'Dragon Tattoo' is hot again.

Of course, if sequels do happen they will be without Fincher's input. We don't even know if Mara or Daniel Craig will be involved, although it's hard to believe they would recast both of their roles. Maybe one, but not both. Plus, producer Amy Pascal isn't fond of any of this.

So who knows? Maybe we'll see Lisbeth Salander on the big screen again, after all?
