'The Maze Runner' Director Wes Ball Steps Into 'The Cage'
The Maze Runner director Wes Ball was considered a hot prospect before he took the helm of the YA adaptation, but with the franchise's $340M launch he's now firmly on studio radars. While he's back at the helm for the sequel, The Scorch Trials, Ball isn't confirmed for the trilogy's finale yet, and he may have just lined up another job which will take him away from it.
According to The Tracking Board, Ball is attached to direct another hot YA property, The Cage, which was written by The Madman's Daughter author, Megan Shepherd. Basically, this just sounds like The Maze Runner meets The Host as it centers on a girl who wakes up alongside others inside a human zoo run by extraterrestrials. When she falls in love with one of her captors she must decide whether to rebel with them or leave them behind.
A number of big studios are said to be circling this one so expect news to arrive soon. Ball is also set to direct a feature-length film based on Ruin, the sci-fi short film that got him noticed in the first place.
