Longtime fans of this site know my favorite story of all-time is the rumor about John Cena possibly replacing Christian Bale as Batman. It was such a load of crap, such complete and utter nonsense, yet a ton of sites ran with it like there was any chance of it happening. Fun stuff. Well, this next rumor is just as unbelievable for pretty much the same reasons. Disreputable rag The Daily Star says Marvel is eyeing Beyonce for a role in the next Avengers movie. It's not going to happen, okay? Let's just put that on Front Street.
Here's what some supposed senior distribution exec at Disney supposedly said...
“We would love to have Beyoncé on board, almost certainly as a newcomer to the screen from Marvel’s existing catalogue of comic book characters.”
Hmmm, yeah, that doesn't sound very confident at all, almost like it was being pulled freshly out of someone's butt. But the surest evidence against it (besides that this is from The Daily Star) is the list of characters Beyonce would be up for. Maybe next time they'll hire a writer more familiar with comic books and film rights....
Among those being considered are…
● Boom-Boom: The alter-ego of Tabitha Smith, a secret agent with the ability to create lethal plasma bombs with her mind.
● Blink: A superheroine who can teleport herself and others anywhere.
● Tigra: A cat-like crime-fi ghter with superhuman strength, speed and agility.
● Hawkeye: An expert in combat, including sword-fi ghting, archery and jujitsu.
Let's see...two of those characters are mutants and thus owned by 20th Century Fox. Details details. Although, I have to admit the idea of Beyonce as Tigra is strangely appealing. There is indeed a female Hawkeye in the Marvel Universe but...nope, Beyonce isn't going to be playing her on the big screen.
The site then goes on to reference Beyonce's long-held desire to play Wonder Woman, and her recent move to Hollywood as "evidence". Not sure that makes sense, but okay.
Of course, numerous sites have run with this as a distinct possibility, including The Mirror who have gone so far as to show us what Beyonce might look like as an Avenger. Strangely enough, she looks like the black Black Widow. Couldn't they at least give her a totally unique look? [via BleedingCool]
