Pedro Almodovar and Asghar Farhadi Team on Spanish-Language Film; Claire Denis to Direct Sci-Fi Film
Three of our best international filmmakers have projects on the way, which would be exciting enough news own, but that they are all venturing into different territory makes this news even better. First up, Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar will team up with Iranian director Asghar Farhadi (A Separation, The Past) on a new film. Almodovar, who recently produced the Oscar nominee Wild Tales, will be producing the film for Farhadi to direct. And while the plot details are still unclear, we know that it will be in both English and Spanish using a combination of American and Spanish actors. Filming will begin in October of next year, meaning it should come after Farhadi's next project shooting later this year, although we don't know anything about that one, either! [IranDaily]
And then there's another of my personal favorites, French director Claire Denis (White Material, 35 Shots of Rum), who is now developing her English-language debut. According to Screen Daily, Denis is planning to direct a sci-fi film co-written with authors Zadie Smith and Nick Laird. Again, plot details are scarce but it will take place in space and go "beyond the solar system in a ‘future that seems like the present." Count me in for that voyage.
