Rob Zombie to Direct Groucho Marx Film 'Raised Eyebrows'
Is there a demand to see Rob Zombie to direct anything other than one of his batsh*t crazy horror movies? Zombie's talents stretch far beyond that genre, and we'll get a sense of what else he can do with Raised Eyebrows, a film centered on the life of comedy legend, Groucho Marx.
Written by Oren Moverman, who most recently co-wrote Brian Wilson biopic Love & Mercy, the film is an adaptation of Steve Stoliar's memoir, Raised Eyebrows: My Years Inside Groucho’s House. Stoliar was a die-hard Marx Brothers fan who became Groucho's personal assistant during his final years. That put him in the orbit of Marx's brothers Zeppo and Gummo, along with other big name celebs like Mae West, George Burns, Bob Hope, Jack Lemmon, and more. The downside is that he also had to deal with the mentally unstable Erin Fleming, Groucho's companion who many believe exploited him to the very end.
No word on when filming would begin, but Zombie sounds like he's ready to get rolling now...
“I have been a huge Groucho Marx fan ever since I was a child and have read countless book on the comic legend, but after reading the book Raised Eyebrows, a totally new perspective on Groucho’s life emerged. I immediately saw this project as Groucho’s Sunset Boulevard and knew I had to bring it to the big screen. It is a sad, funny and very dark tale of a one of Hollywood’s greatest stars final years.” [Deadline]
