That 'Ghostbusters' Movie with Channing Tatum isn't Happening Anymore

With filming on Paul Feig's all-female Ghostbusters reboot underway, Sony has been looking to find new ways to expand the franchise. Branding is where it's at, and they feel Ghostbusters has enough name appeal to carry multiple movies with a wide variety of stars. Ther has been talk of Phil Lord and Chris Miller possibly directing a film that could end up being part of an eventual crossover movie. And then last year we learned of a Ghostbusters movie that Channing Tatum was developing with the Russo Brothers (Captain America: Civil War), screenwriter Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) and possibly Chris Pratt.

But the bloom started to come off the rose a little bit when Pratt called all of the rumors "bullsh*t", and earlier this week Tatum appeared on Howard Stern sounding like the project had hit the skids...

“That thing’s gotten messy. I gotta be honest, there’s a lot of people doing a lot of things on ‘Ghostbusters. There's a lot of people in the 'Ghostbusters' pool."

And then Tatum's creative partner Reid Carolin spoke with ScreenRant and basically just came out and said the project is happening...

“We’re not doing that anymore....No I don’t think so, I think it’s too complicated. There’s a lot of things going on with that brand and I just feel like it’s over-saturated."

Given the abundance of potential Ghostbusters projects out there this isn't a total surprise. Plus, Tatum and Pratt are already incredibly busy with various blockbuster projects, while the Russo Brothers are locked in for two Avengers: Infinity War movies.

Maybe one day Tatum and Co. will circle back to Ghostbusters when things die down, but it may all depend on how Feig's film does when it opens on July 22nd 2016.
