Greg Berlanti pretty much owns an entire corner of Comic-Con, just as he's cornered the market on DC Comics TV series. His three hit shows, The Flash, Arrow, and newcomer Supergirl took up a lot of space at Comic-Con this year, and of course there was no shortage of news about each of them.
First up, CBS' Supergirl debuted the pilot episode starring Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin. The episode has largely received positive reviews from the fans that I've spoken to about it. But there's still room for her to have a major villain to contend with...or at least a character who could become a villain at some point. That's where Peter Facinelli (The Twilight Saga) comes in, as it was announced that he's joining the cast as Maxwell Lord. Lord is described as a tech billionaire with a friendly rivalry with Cat Grant (Callista Flockhart) and a fascination with Supergirl. In the comics, Maxwell Lord has been both a hero and a villain, and is probably best remembered for turning against his old friends and even murdering in cold blood his former pal, the Blue Beetle. Supergirl premieres on CBS this Oct. 26th.
Guess who's getting some sweet new duds? Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) aka the Arrow, has a brand new costume for Arrow's fourth season. What for? Didn't he decide to retire and start a new life elsewhere with Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) after defeating Ra's Al Ghul? Obviously that didn't stick, and Ollie will get drawn back into his crime-fighting ways. Likely it will have something to do with the arrival of Damien Darkh (Neal McDonough) into Starling City. And let's not forget that Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) is now in charge of the League of Assassins. Arrow returns on Oct. 7th.
As teased for part of last season, The Flash will be delving further into the "Speed Force" in season two, and there's no better way to that than by introducing the first man to ever don the mantle of the Flash, Jay Garrick. Teddy Sears (Masters of Sex) has been cast as Garrick, described for the show as a mysterious figure who arrives in Central City to warn Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) about a threat he can't hope to stop alone. And also Shantel VanSanten (The Final Destination) has been cast as Patty Spivot, a science enthusiast and police officer who happens to be partners with Det. Joe West (Jesse L. Martin). She develops a crush on the Flash but has no idea of who he really is. Oh Barry and his troubles with love. The Flash returns to the CW on Oct. 6th.
