'The Peanuts Movie' celebrates Franklin Day with a new TV Spot
You probably know that today was Franklin Day, did you? What the heck is Franklin Day? It's a day honoring the first appearance of Franklin Armstrong, the first and most prominent African-American character in the Peanuts comic strips. Charles M. Schulz created the character 47 years ago, but contrary to popular opinion it wasn't done as a statement on race relations or segregation. And now in honor of Franklin Day, a new TV spot for The Peanuts Movie puts Franklin in the spotlight.
Since Franklin (voiced by Mar Mar in the film) has always been my favorite Peanuts supporting character, just knowing there is enough material for him to get a TV spot is encouraging. The film is directed by Steve Martino and features a script co-written by Schulz's sons and Cornelius Uliano, with Paul Feig on board as a producer. Here's the synopsis, and sadly it doesn't center on Franklin but the continued misadventures of Charlie Brown and Snoopy:
Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus and the rest of the beloved “Peanuts” gang make their big-screen debut, like they’ve never been seen before, in state of the art 3D animation. Snoopy, the world’s most lovable beagle – and flying ace – embarks upon his greatest mission as he takes to the skies to pursue his arch-nemesis The Red Baron, while his best pal, Charlie Brown, begins his own epic quest. From the imagination of Charles M. Schulz and the creators of the ICE AGE films, THE PEANUTS MOVIE will prove that every underdog has his day.
The Peanuts Movie opens November 6th 2015, and I simply can't wait.
