Scoot McNairy Joins 'War Machine'; Kim Basinger Boards 'Nocturnal Animals'; 'Underworld 5' Adds Tobias Menzies

Scoot McNairy has worked with Brad Pitt twice already, on Killing Them Softly and 12 Years a Slave, and now they're going for a third. McNairy has joined Pitt in War Machine, the Netflix film directed by David Michod (The Rover, which McNairy co-starred in) and loosely based on the rise and fall of General Stanley McChrystal. The dark comedy is based on Michael Hastings' book, The Operators: The Wild And Terrifying Inside Story Of America’s War In Afghanistan, and takes a satirical account of McChrystal's questionable handing of that war. Tom Ford's Nocturnal Animals continues to expand its cast with the addition of Kim Basinger. The A Single Man director's first film in six years already stars Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Michael Shannon, and is based on the Austin Wright book, Tony and Susan. The film tells two parallel stories: one following Susan (Adams) who receives a manuscript from the ex-husband she divorced years earlier. The second is of the tale being told within that manuscript, following the fictional Tony as his family vacation takes a violent turn. Basinger will Anne Sutton, a Texas socialite and mother to Adams' character. [Deadline]

Underworld 5 director Anna Foerster had added her Outlander star Tobias Menzies to the cast, joining Kate Beckinsale and Theo James. The long-running franchise will continue the story of Selene, the death-dealing vampire caught in the middle of a war between her kind and the Lycans. Menzies will play Marius, the mysterious new leader of the Lycans. Underworld 5 opens October 21st 2016. [Deadline]
