Sony confirms two 'Bad Boys' Films on the Way, 'The Dark Tower', 'Passengers' and More get Release Dates

It's often been stated that Sony Pictures is desperate to find new tentpole films they can launch into franchises. It's a large part of the reason they got ahead of themselves with The Amazing Spider-Man, and why there has been so much talk of expanded universes for Ghostbusters, Men in Black, and 21 Jump Street. And now Sony has gotten off their butts and put everything on the table, dropping release dates for a whopping 16 films, including long-awaited Bad Boys sequels. That's right; sequels plural.

It looks like Martin Lawrence's belly-aching about a Bad Boys sequel over the last few years has paid off because Sony has set the third film for February 17, 2017, which will then be followed by a fourth movie on July 3, 2019. Presumably Lawrence and Will Smith are coming back but nothing is confirmed, and who knows where Michael Bay fits into this equation.

The forever-developing sci-fi film Passengers with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt has been set for December 21st 2016. Also there's a remake of Robin Williams' Jumanji arriving just a few days later on Christmas 2016, and Edgar Wright's Baby Driver with Ansel Elgort is racing towards a March 17th 2017 date.

It looks like Ron Howard's troubled adaptation of The Dark Tower, which at one time was looking to be a big and small screen franchise, is moving forward and set for January 13th 2017. Some already established projects have been bumped around, as well, such as video game adaptation Uncharted which is arriving on June 30th 2017, Paul Feig's Ghostbusters has been moved up a week to July 15th 2016, and The Magnificent Seven with Denzel Washington gallops into theaters on September 23rd 2016.

And still that's not all as Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is slated for January 27th 2017, and that Barbie film nobody asked for opens June 2nd 2017. Phew! The full list is below:
