Tom Ford adds Michael Shannon and Aaron Taylor-Johnson to 'Nocturnal Animals'
Six years ago fashion designer Tom Ford made his directorial debut with the lavish, beautifully shot drama A Single Man, still to this day perhaps the best Colin Firth and Nicholas Hoult have ever looked on screen. Ford has kept a low profile since, but now he's coming back with Nocturnal Animals, and after landing Amy Adams and Gyllenhaal as his two leads, two more big names have come aboard.
Michael Shannon and Aaron Taylor-Johnson have joined the Nocturnal Animals cast,an adaptation of Austin Wright's 1993 novel, Tony and Susan. This one spins an interesting two-part narrative, one following a woman who receives a book manuscript from the ex-husband she's been separated from for 20 years. The second story centers on a man whose family vacation takes a violent turn. Shannon will play a detective investigating that violence, while Taylor-Johnson is someone who may pose a threat to Gyllenhaal's family.
Joaquin Phoenix had been circling a role in the film but it's unclear if that's still the case. Whether he joins or not, Ford already has an embarrassment of riches to work with here. [Variety]
