Brie Larson Joins the 'Battle of the Sexes' with Steve Carell

When there's talk of the best performance seen at TIFF this year one of the first names to emerge is just about always Brie Larson, who is earning strong review for her starring role in Room. Those who saw her in Short Term 12 always knew how good of a dramatic actress she was, and now she's about to serve up another example.

Larson has replaced Emma Stone in Battle of the Sexes, the tennis drama that already stars Steve Carell. Directed by the Little Miss Sunshine duo of Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, the film centers on the 1973 "Battle of the Sexes" match between Billie Jean King and chauvenistic tennis champ Bobby Riggs.  Danny Boyle is producing while the script is written by his frequent collaborator, Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire).  Stone, who joined the film with Carell back in April, had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

With two other Riggs vs. King projects on the way, one featuring Will Ferrell and another with Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti, Battle of the Sexes is moving fast to the be the first one out of the gate. [Variety]
