First Trailer for Adam McKay's 'The Big Short' with Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Brad Pitt, and Christian Bale
Want to know a good way to disrupt all of the awards prognosticators already making their predictions for the year's best? Unexpectedly drop a major film like The Big Short right in the middle of it. There hasn't been a lot of buzz surrounding Adam McKay's financial crisis drama mainly because it was expected to open some time next year. But Paramount Pictures, clearly feeling good about the film they have on their hands, has not only debuted the first trailer but given it an awards-worthy release date.
Starring Steve Carell, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, and Christian Bale, the film is based on the book by Michael Lewis, yep the same guy who wrote Moneyball. So this one comes in with a ton of cred, and the story is timely as it deals with the greedy banksters who caused the housing crisis in 2005.
It's interesting to see McKay take a dramatic route like this since he's known for comedies alongside his pal, Will Ferrell. But those who remember his work on The Other Guys, which also dealt with financial concerns, know this is a subject he's deeply invested in. Here's the official synopsis:
When four outsiders saw what the big banks, media and government refused to, the global collapse of the economy, they had an idea: The Big Short. Their bold investment leads them into the dark underbelly of modern banking where they must question everyone and everything.
The Big Short opens in limited release on December 11th and goes wide on December 23rd.
