Furiosa Isn't In the 'Mad Max: Fury Road' Sequel

Charlize Theron hasn't been too keen on coming back for any sequels for Mad Max: Fury Road, despite her character Furiosa emerging as the film's big breakout.  The prior shoot was pretty rough, and Theron reportedly had some issues working alongside Tom Hardy, but in general the hope was that she would return when George Miller was ready to get things going again. One thing that hasn't been considered is that she may not be needed back at all.

Speaking with Digital Spy, Miller says the Furiosa character isn't part of his sequel plans for Mad Max: Fury Road, which is going under the working title of Mad Max: The Wasteland...

"I'm not sure, is the answer. She's not in the Mad Max [sequel] story, but in one of the stories there's an interaction between [Max and Furiosa]. I can't really say more than that because it's still in progress."

There's been talk of a possible Furiosa spinoff and maybe he's leaving the door open for that, or perhaps he realizes convincing Theron to return would be a waste of time. Miller has talked about having two sequel screenplays ready to go, but first he wants to shoot a smaller movie first. He's also continued to show interest in directing Man of Steel 2, despite the film not happening any time soon if at all.
