'Alien: Covenant' Title Confirmed, but the Synopsis Has a Glaring Omission
Just a few days ago Ridley Scott revealed that his sequel to Prometheus had undergone a name change, from Alien: Paradise Lost to Alien: Covenant. No big deal, right? Well now the title has been confirmed, and along with it comes a new release date and an early plot synopsis. It's the latter detail which is interesting as there's a pretty glaring omission.
Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the "synthetic" David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
Where's Noomi Rapace as Elizabeth Shaw? She and Fassbender's David were the two characters that survived Prometheus, and it has been expected that both would return. Rapace herself has often talked about it, which makes it a little odd she's not mentioned. But with Scott saying the film will feature "new travelers" and rumors of Rebecca Ferguson joining the cast, is it possible Rapace is out?
Alien: Covenant has now been moved to October 6th 2017, five months after its original date.
