Tina Fey Goes To War In First 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot' Trailer
Opening this weekend in a daring attempt at counter-programming is the Tina Fey comedy, Sisters, providing a welcome (or perhaps not so welcome) respite for those trying to avoid Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Fey is a comedic force but rarely has she been the centerpiece of her own film; she's usually paired up with someone else or part of an ensemble. That changes with the arrival of the wartime comedy, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, which is based on the memoir by conflict reporter, Kim Barker.
The first trailer for the comedy has been released and already it looks better than Bill Murray's Rock the Kasbah, another laugher about an American stuck in the Middle East. Directed by Focus duo John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, with Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, Christopher Abbott, and Billy Bob Thornton co-starring, the film centers on Barker as she deals with being a Western woman stationed in Kabul. Here's what Fey told USA Today about the role...
“ [It's] the idea when a regular normal-looking woman goes into a place where there aren’t very many women. She becomes a real object of desire in a way that is hopefully comical."
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot opens next year on March 4th.
