Nicolas Winding Refn Joins With 'Skyfall' Writers For Tokyo-Set Action Film

Is Nicolas Winding Refn finally taking the blockbuster route? It sure looks that way, as Deadline reports he'll team with James Bond franchise writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade for an as-yet-untitled action movie, but could this actually be a project Refn has been working on for some time?

Details on the film are slim at this point, but it's being described as an action thriller in an Asian setting. For a while now Refn has been chatting up a spy movie set in Tokyo that he was calling The Avenging Silence, and it's possible this is the first concrete step in making it a reality.

It's not as if Refn is against the idea of making a studio blockbuster. He was attached to the Logan's Run remake with Ryan Gosling at one point, but ultimately dropped out. After the success of Drive he followed-up with Only God Forgives which got a much harsher reception. His next film is the L.A. horror, The Neon Demon, due out later this year.
