'Robin Hood: Origins' Adds Jamie Foxx As Little John
Jamie Foxx didn't have any awards to win at last night's Golden Globes but he may have had the line of the night with his simple "Ghetto" retort to Quentin Tarantino's use of the word during an acceptance speech. It was cool and made an impact, especially when one considers Foxx led Tarantino's Django Unchained just a couple of years ago. Hopefully Foxx can bring some of that cool to his next project, although it will be hard making a guy named Little John seem cool.
Foxx is set to play the merry man in the Otto Bathurst-directed Robin Hood: Origins, a gritty take on the classic story of the outlaw who robs from the rich and gives to the poor. Foxx's version of Little John is described by Deadline as “a battle hardened but war weary veteran of The Crusades who starts out distrustful of Robin Hood (they fought on opposite sides), and then warms to the young hero.” Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service) will play the title character, while Eve Hewson (The Knick) has been cast as Maid Marian.
Foxx will next join rappers T.I., Lloyd Banks, and Young Jeezy in the cop thriller, Sleepless Night, after which he'll begin filming on Edgar Wright's Baby Driver.
